2012 Honda Pilot Maintenance Light Reset & Fluids

When the maintenance wrench comes on or the vehicle has received an oil and filter change the maintenance minder system will need to be reset.  Here are the instructions:

1) Turn the ignition to run (one click before starting the engine).

2) Press the SELECT/RESET knob repeatedly until the engine oil life indicator % is shown.

3) Press and hold the SELECT/RESET knob for more than 10 seconds.  The oil life % will begin to blink.  Release the SELECT/RESET knob.

4) Press and hold the SELECT/RESET knob for for more than 5 seconds.  The oil life indicator % will change to 100%.

*Touring models will have to follow the reset procedures by using the SEL/RESET button on the steering wheel to bring up the Oil Life menu

When servicing this vehicle it might be a good idea to understand the types of fluids Honda recommends:

  1. Engine Oil – 0W20 is recommended for year round use

  2. Engine Coolant – Honda Long Life Anti-Freeze/Coolant Type 2

  3. Automatic Transmission – Honda ATF DW-1

  4. Brake /Clutch Fluid – Honda Heavy Duty Dot 3

  5. Power Steering – Honda PSF

  6. Rear Differential – Honda VTM -4 Differential Fluid

  7. Transfer Case – SAE 90 or SAE 80W90 (GL4 or GL5)

With this information you should be well equipped to service the 2012 Honda Crosstour!

    1. Hi Ray,

This vehicle does not come from the factory filled with synthetic oil. It can use conventional or synthetic oils. I hope this helps.

  1. I have 2013 Honda Pilot Touring. Before I crank the engine I have noticed all yellow lights light up and then vanish except (i) System Message Indicator light, even this light vanishes once the engine is up, on & running. Is this normal or something is wrong. Please let me know. Tks a lot. Darius

    1. Hi Darayus,

It is normal for all system lights to be lit when the vehicle ignition is in accessory mode. It is also normal for the lights to not be lit when the engine is started. There will only be an issue if a light remains lit when the engine is started.

  2. Just changed oil in my 2012 pilot and I can’t get it to reset oil life %. I did go over by 49 miles. pls help! Thx, Ray

    1. Hi Ray,

Exceeding the interval by 49mi will not affect the ability of the vehicle’s system to be reset. We will follow up by sending you detailed instructions to the email address you provided.

  3. Hi,

Tried repeatedly to reset my 2012 honda pilot.

    Is there an alternate procedure?

I get the 15% and 1A to go out and then it blinks “oil life”.

I press again and the 15% show up and blinks, then it just stops blinking.

    Help on this please.
