The 2012 Toyota Highlander oil light /maintenance required light is mileage-based and comes on when the vehicle is due for an oil change service every 4500 miles or (7200 km). The light will Illuminate for about 3 seconds and then flash for about 15 seconds to indicate an oil change is required. The light will come on if the distance driven exceeds 5000 miles (8000 km). The maintenance system will only work properly if reset after an oil change; thus resetting the counter to 0 miles/km.

Follow these instructions to reset the maintenance required light:

Vehicles without smart key system
1. Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).
2. Ensure Trip Metre A reading is shown. Turn the ignition off. (Go to step 3)
Vehicles with smart key system
1. Press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch once (do not start engine).
2. Ensure Trip Metre A reading is shown. Turn the ignition off.
3. While pressing the Trip Meter reset button, press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch once (do not start engine).
Without multi-information display: Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays “000000”.
With multi-information display: Continue to press and hold the button until “COMPLETE” appears on the multi-information display.
4. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

Hybrid
1. Press the “POWER” switch once (do not start engine).
2.Turn off the hybrid system with the trip meter A reading shown.
3. Ensure Trip Metre A reading is shown. Turn the ignition off.
4. While holding down the trip meter reset knob the “POWER” switch must be set in ON mode (do not start engine). A message “COMPLETE” will appear on the multi information display.
5. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.
